Microsoft has released their anti-spyware solution. It's in beta and it's free. I loaded it today on my notebook. I was using Spywareblaster and will most likely continue to, however, it's really important to have something that not only scans  and removes but also defends. Spywarebaster does an excellent jog defending, but unless you purchase a license you have to do a manual update to protect against the latest threats. MS Antispyware updates automatically. You also don't have to validate your computer. Yes, they are trying hard to get people to do this, but if you follow the prompts, you can download and use it without the validation. So, without further ado, unto the download: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

I ran across someone who painstakingly wrote down a series of steps that we all should occasionally go through to make sure that our computers are clean and spiffy. We do it when we clean our houses, or our cars, why not do it with our computers? Check it out its called: Housekeeping 101 and continues with Housekeeping 102 Hats off to the guys ar Lockergnome for this. http://channels.lockergnome.com/windows/archives/20050117_housekeeping_101.phtml

There seems to be a new variant of the bagle virus going around. The details of the virus can be read here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3965721.stm But stay away from any e-mails that say "joke" or "price" in the subject line.

Also, my friend alerted me to another quirk in Internet Explorer. Seems there is another way  to become infected via  visiting a malicious website dubbed the Interenet Explorer Click and Scroll Security Issue:

Well, I'm back again. I know 6 months ago I promised to keep this site updated more frequently. Here's another promise. I'm going to do it I swear! I'll start back into it by offereing you a couple of links to some nice freeware to help protect your computer from those nasties we've all become familiar with. The first one is Bazooka. My friend turned me onto this tool just yesterday and it immediately helped me to get put the finger on some malicious trojans that were running on a clients computer. Get it here: http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10247782.html p.s. notice the high rate of positive reviews this tool has gotten while you're there.

Here's a similiar tool I found today that looks at your computer to determine if it is infected: http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/free_utilities.asp

Hope you find these useful! Rember it's our job to stop these idiots from making the internet a dump. It's like cleaning up the park and making it a nice place for everyone to go, so do your part and clean up your computer and help others do the same!

Wow, another long strange trip. Hopefully I will try and update this blog on a more consistant basis and provide some worthwhile  information.
